On February 23, 2026, the The Association of Certified Professional Nutritionists, in collaboration with the Aishang Arts Centre, successfully hosted a warm and engaging community gathering centered around the theme “Nourishing Connections to Combat Loneliness by Cooking.”

The event aimed to bring people together through food, conversation, and shared cultural experiences. By combining cooking demonstrations with social interaction, the gathering created an inviting space where participants could reconnect with old friends, meet new people, and experience the joy of community.

A highlight of the event was a live cooking demonstration of Sichuan-style crispy fried pork, a beloved home-style dish. Participants enjoyed watching the step-by-step preparation while learning practical cooking tips. As the freshly fried pork was served, its rich aroma and crispy texture delighted everyone in the room.

Beyond the cooking experience, the event created a relaxed environment where guests could sit together, share food, and engage in meaningful conversations. Laughter filled the room as old friends reunited and new friendships began to form. The gathering reflected a simple yet powerful idea: sharing food can help strengthen social connections and reduce feelings of loneliness.

The organizers emphasized that community-based activities like this play an important role in promoting both social well-being and emotional health. Through cooking, cultural exchange, and friendly interaction, the event encouraged participants to step out of isolation and rediscover the value of human connection.

The event was supported by the International Culture Federation and funded in part by the Government of Canada through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which supports community initiatives that foster inclusion, participation, and well-being among older adults.

Looking ahead, ACPN and Aishang Arts Centre plan to continue organizing community activities that combine food, culture, and social engagement, helping to build stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.
